But what does working out differently really look like in practice?
THE BIGGEST FITNESS MYTH OUT THERE
This was my mantra for years!
Unlearning was my first step to working out in a different way.
Because although this mantra is inspirational, it was subtly shaming me into showing up.
That shame separated me from my body’s innate wisdom.
The wisdom that was asking me :
To sleep in instead of being in the gym at 5am. Some days I needed rest…not exercise
I really need to stretch and take a leisure walk today instead of doing a hard workout
Rest will help you get results faster
My body was begging for me to truly care for her.
We ladies cycle every month…and just like the seasons, there’s a time for work, harvest, and rest.
In 2020, I could feel myself on the precipice of a new cycle. But to make space for this new beginning, I was being asked to honor my season of rest.
THE POWER OF PLEASURE
Reflecting back on this time, I realize I was truly learning to live in harmony with pleasure.
Sure, I allowed myself a dallop of pleasure here and there when I felt I had earned it. But it was an aspect of myself that I kept under lock and key…just as society taught me.
I wanted more than to simply interact with pleasure. I wanted to be integrated with that part of myself…to be whole.
And this piece is vitally important because just as the insidious and perpetual nature of shame had separated me from my body’s innate wisdom, not living fully connected to pleasure kept me disconnected from myself as well.
To show up differently, I knew I needed to make pleasure a foundational component of how I moved through my day and my workouts.
LOVE YOURSELF AND WATCH YOUR BODY TRANSFORM
“Getting back in shape” is daunting when you feel frustrated + stuck because your body isn’t responding like it used to.
Those blocks are the call from your body asking you to show up differently.
To reconnect to your wisdom and intuition.
To let go of the striving and proving.
It’s a transformation so much deeper than just the physical. One that helps you remember how to love yourself the way you were born to.
As you come into true alignment with yourself, your physical body will follow.
And your workouts will become downright pleasurable!
